I've spent 25 years in journalism, working as a reporter, editor and coach. I have a passion for helping journalists experiment with new tools to tell stories in creative ways.
About Me
My name is Amy Zerba (pronounced ZER-bah). I'm a deputy editor at The New York Times in Manhattan, where I help develop training programs for Times journalists. These trainings focus on how to use our A.I. tools to help with reporting and research in responsible and ethical ways that adhere to our standards. I have a background in teaching and editing and a Ph.D. in journalism. I live in Manhattan with my family.
Teaching
I've taught journalism courses in reporting, editing, web design, multimedia journalism and survey research. I enjoy helping students shape their story ideas and experiment with storytelling formats.
Research
As a Ph.D. student and former professor, I researched the news habits and non-news habits of young adults (ages 18-29). My research examines the reasons for choosing and not choosing certain news media.
Design
I'm passionate about clean and clever design. I enjoy drawing for fun, but do less of it these days. I have dreamt of opening a graphic design studio to create logos, posters, fliers and websites that tell the stories of small businesses.
