The following are fellowships, grants, and scholarships that
she received as a Ph.D. student while at the University of Texas at Austin,
totaling more than $30,000:
- Nettie Doscher More Fellowship, University of Texas,
2008. This Texas Exes fellowship is given to journalism graduate
students who have demonstrated excellence in academics and journalism.
- James W. Tankard Jr. Excellence in Graduate Education
Award, University of
Texas, 2008. Financial award assisted with
travel funding for research (first recepient).
- Jesse H. Jones Endowed Centennial Fellowship, University
of Texas, 2007-08.
This College of Communication fellowship is given to one journalism graduate
student each year who has shown academic achievement and demonstrated competence
in journalism research with an interdisciplinary approach.
- University Continuing Fellowship, University of Texas,
2006-07. This is the
largest university-wide fellowship and is given
to 80-90 graduate students each year across all disciplines. Awards are based
on academic achievement and a well-defined program of work.
- David Bruton Jr. Graduate Fellowship, University of
Texas, 2005-06. This journalism fellowship is based
on major accomplishments since entering Graduate School and a well-defined
program of research.
- American Copy Editors Society Scholarship, ACES, Dec.
2005. This national
scholarship is given to five college students each year who have demonstrated
an interest in and an aptitude for copy editing.
- Ada Francis Miller Fellowship, University of Texas,
2004-05. This journalism fellowship is given to graduate students
who have demonstrated excellence in academics and journalism at the University
of Texas.
- Maxwell McCombs Jesse H. Jones Centennial Chair scholarship, 2007, Scholarship given to assist in attribute agenda-setting research on late-night television humor and young adults’ opinions of political candidates.
- Pic Wagner Fellowship, University of Texas, 2003-04. This
fellowship is given to graduate students who have demonstrated excellence in
academics and journalism.
- David M. Warren and Alvah Meyer Warren Journalism Scholarship,
This scholarship is for travel expenses to attend a research conference.
