hello.

Amy ZerbaMy name is Amy Zerba (pronounced ZER-bah). I'm a deputy editor at The New York Times in Manhattan, where I help develop training programs for Times journalists. These trainings range from three-day intensive workshops on reporting and editing to brownbag dicussions on everything from writing captions to investigative techiques. My role is to coach other journalists on how to lead these training programs. I have a background in teaching and editing. The best part: I get a front row seat to these advanced classes taught by Times journalists.

Before this current role, I was an editor on the Metro and Sports desks at The Times. I started at The Times in 2012.

When I'm not working in the newsroom, I'm spending time with my family in the city.

I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a bachelor’s in English, a master’s in journalism (all from the University of Florida) and a Ph.D. in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. Yup, a lot of school. Learning — about anything — is what energizes me.
